Snakes

Last month during our Nature Adventure we decided that the topic of our next object lesson should be snakes since we had 3 sightings during our exploration time! This is certainly snake season! So many of my friends have been posting pictures of their recent sightings! I’m glad we could devote our afternoon to learning more and experiencing the marvelous creatures!

For this topic I wanted to have a guest visitor that could bring some snakes that the children could observe and touch! Anna was an amazing educator and shared her passion with the children. I heard from many parents that there will be some future snake pets in the homes!

To prepare the students, I sent some snake education links that I found were very helpful! Students also entered what they learned into their nature journals today.

I found these videos helpful:

And this is a great website about snake anatomy:

Anna shared more information with students like what types of snakes are native to our state, what they eat, where they live, and so much more!

The best part of the class was when we all formed a circle and each of her 4 snakes and the snake skin were passed around for the students to get an up close look!

The weather today was absolutely perfect! We were outside from 9:00-2:30 today learning, exploring, and enjoying the amazing day! An outdoor classroom is truly the best place to be. I’m sure this day will be remembered by many of the children! It’s such a blessing to hear people like Anna share their passion with the next generation! Thank you again, Anna!
