Our Robin Hood Book Party

Planning for the Robin Hood book party was easy because Wild + Free put together a beautiful book party plan within their bundle content and we used this to inspire our first book party for the 2020-2021 school year!

Before our actual party, we were able to secure a group archery lesson at the local state park! Park rangers did an amazing job with the children teaching the basics and history of archery.

Although it was a hot day in July, everyone loved the experience and it was the extra “oomph” we needed to finish up the Howard Pyle version of our Robin Hood book! If you’re local and want to set up your own archery field trip, contact Henry Horton State Park! They are amazing!

On the day of our party, everyone came with decorations, food, and games! Here are the highlights of our amazing day!

Pool Noodle Quarter Staff

In the Howard Pyle book about Robin Hood, one of the classic scenes is when Robin Hood and Little John meet for the first time. Heather did an amazing job setting up our own quarter staff “bridge” to recreate this fun scene from the book!

Archery

Although we didn’t have any golden arrow prizes like the book, all the children enjoyed shooting their toy bow and arrow sets at targets set out in the field! Lara and her children made some creative targets including “The king’s deer” which was the first thing we read about Robin Hood shooting in the book!

Food

We enjoyed talking about all the feasts that happened within the Robin Hood story and enjoyed our own feast of sweet and savory treats! We had a large group for our party and everyone was so generous in bringing delicious food to enjoy!

Entertainment

The location of our party is perfect for a show and the students did an amazing job recreating the story of Robin Hood on stage! I was inspired to retell the story from the stage performance here at the Tennessee Renaissance Festival! If you’d like a copy of the script, you can see it here!

Eva Mae played Maid Marian and tried to kiss Robin Hood but he wasn’t having any of it! (Little sister knew it would irritate big brother!)

Decorations

Stephanie hit the ball out of the park with these photo props and decorations! It was so much fun to see the kids excited about books! I can tell that book parties are going to be one of our favorite aspects of homeschooling this year!
